Fractured Depths sends the Submariner into one of the most hostile environments yet encountered: a labyrinth of deep-ocean fractures hidden beneath the freezing waters of the Southern Ocean. Here, shifting tectonic plates have created immense trenches, isolated basins, submerged ice caverns and narrow cracks descending into the Earth's crust. Supercooled currents pour through the fractures while geothermal vents create bizarre pockets where extreme heat and near-freezing water exist only meters apart. As the crew descends, familiar Antarctic wildlife gives way to organisms adapted to crushing pressure, permanent darkness and brutal cold. Eventually they discover wreckage carried into the fractures from across the Southern Ocean—and evidence that some of these isolated pockets have remained sealed for millions of years.
