Submariner — Sea Life

The Luminous Driftkelp-Beast begins as a drifting mat of lantern kelp, harmless enough until the fronds fold inward and reveal the animal woven through the roots. Its body is long, patient, and almost plant-still, with glowing tendrils that imitate safe currents and false marker lights. Research crews follow its glow because the beast often gathers around nutrient blooms and rare chemical vents. The danger is that it learns the rhythm of a submarine quickly, wrapping itself around the same wake pattern until the crew mistakes pursuit for coincidence. A Driftkelp-Beast does not strike like a predator. It accompanies, studies, and slowly turns the water around a vessel into a net.
