The Polaris Kite Manta carries pale star-map lines across its wings and follows a direction no compass admits exists. It appears ahead of converging routes, gliding so steadily that crews use it as a living reference point in bad water. Its wing nodules make excellent navigation components, subtly coaxing the ocean into producing more contacts.
